Modern Geometric Area Rugs

Our geometric rugs are built on lines, grids and repeating shapes. Pick from checkerboards, plaids, stripes, diamonds, dots and bordered frames for a living room, kitchen or hallway. Every rug here is machine washable, most are low pile with a non-slip backing, and sizes run from 2x3 to 10x14 plus 2x6 and 2x10 runners.

Grids, Stripes and Diamonds

Checkerboards and plaids repeat a square across the whole rug, so they hold their own in a large, plain room. Stripes and thin lines are quieter, and on a 2x6 or 2x10 runner they lead the eye down a hallway.

Diamond and lattice designs give a traditional room a cleaner edge. Bordered frames and scattered dots keep the center calm, which works under a bed or a dining table.

Pattern Scale and Room Size

A bold grid needs floor space to read as a pattern, so in a living room an 8x10 or 9x12 shows the full repeat. Cut down to a 2x3, the same large design can look like a cropped corner.

For entryways, sink fronts and runners, small checks, dots and thin stripes stay tidy at that size. Most designs here come in every size from 2x3 to 8x10, so you can repeat one pattern from the hallway into the living room.

Geometric Rug FAQs

Are geometric rugs still in style?

Yes. Grids, stripes and bordered designs keep turning up in modern, mid-century and transitional rooms, and softer versions in beige, sage or brown are easy to live with for years.

Should a rug be lighter or darker than the floor?

Go for clear contrast so the pattern doesn't disappear: a cream or beige geometric on dark wood, or a brown, green or blue one on pale oak or tile. If the rug and floor share the same tone, the lines blur from across the room.

Are diamond rugs modern or traditional?

They can be either. Oversized diamonds in two bold colors look modern, while a small diamond lattice inside a border reads more traditional; the diamond and lattice designs here sit between the two, in beige and brown.
