Indoor Doormats

Our indoor doormats are washable low-pile rugs for the floor just inside the front, back or mudroom door. We picked dark grounds and all-over prints, from leopard and dense florals to distressed Persians and dark plaids, so grit shows less between washes. Every style comes in 2x3, and nearly all in 3x5 for wider doors.

Patterns That Hide Dirt

Grit, wet footprints and pet hair all land on the first few steps inside the door. A dark ground or a print full of small detail breaks those marks up, so the rug looks clean for longer between washes.

Brown and navy plaids do the same job in a simpler, more tailored entry.

Thin Enough to Clear the Door

The low pile and thin backing let most inward-opening doors swing over the rug; if yours sits close to the floor, measure the gap first.

The non-slip backing grips best on a clean, dry floor, so wipe up any puddle under the rug after a wet day.

Washing an Indoor Doormat

Shake it out or vacuum off the grit first, then wash it on its own on a cold, gentle cycle without bleach or fabric softener.

A 2x3 fits any washer from 2.2 cu ft. Let the backing dry completely before the rug goes back by the door.

Indoor Doormat FAQs

Is it better to have a door mat inside or outside?

Both if you can: a coarse mat outside scrapes off mud, and a softer rug inside catches what's left. Ours are indoor rugs, so keep them inside the door, out of the rain.

What type of doormat is best for inside?

A thin, low-pile mat with a non-slip backing, so the door clears it and it stays put on hard floors. Pick one you can wash at home, because the rug at the door gets dirty faster than any other.

What size rug for a small entryway?

A 2x3 suits a single door in a tight entry, and a 3x5 laid across the doorway gives you room to step in with both feet. For a long, narrow entry, a 2x6 runner covers more of the path.
